Dear anthropology colleagues

NAF, the association for all anthropologist in Norway

The Norwegian Anthropological Association is a forum for all anthropologists in Norway, whether they speak Norwegian or not

As a member of the Norwegian Anthropological Association, you will receive a monthly newsletter, discounts on our events, get influence in the association, and the honour of strengthening the anthropological community in Norway.

The association organizes conferences every two years, publishes the professional journal Norwegian Anthropological Journal and administers the website https://antropologi.org/

Our website and newsletter are available in English as well as Norwegian. While the dominant language at the conference is Norwegian, there are several English-language workshops and possibilities to present your work in English in most workshops. The Norwegian Anthropological Journal also publishes (a limited amount) of articles in English.

While many anthropologists work primarily through their international networks, we believe that a number of issues still profit from being addressed collectively by anthropologists in Norway. This includes notably academic/professional interests in our work as anthropologists, promoting interest in and strengthening the position and applicability of social anthropology in a societal context, and promoting the discipline’s uniqueness in research ethics and legal regulations.

In addition to being a lively meeting place for anthropologists in Norway, NAF aims to strengthen members’ contact and collaboration with colleagues in other countries. We believe that our international colleagues who work in Norway may contribute to this and to a much-needed comparative perspective on anthropology as a discipline and practice.

You can sign up for the conference here.

English-speaking sessions include Property and Loss on the Urban Fringes, Biocultural Heritage in an Era of Environmental Decline, Has the Otherwise Run Out of Steam?, Writing in the age of AI: What makes ethnographic writing unmissable? and Unmissable Absences: Negative Space as Method, Memory, and Possibility.
